EX daily troubleshooting guide
Does anyone know if there are any daily troubleshooting guides available? I could probably create one, but if there is one already out there then that would help in saving time. The typical things that I am looking for are:
1. How to check that the EX server is working properly
2. How to check that journaling/archiving is working properly
3. How to clear out items in the MessageCenter, Payload, etc. (espcially empty folders)
4. How to tackle indexing issues (blue and red exclamation points)
5. Gotchas to be aware of
Thanks.

Did you attach a file or post a link? I don't see it in your reply.
Thanks.

The first place to start is the EmailXtender Adminstrator guide. Chapter 6, Maintenance, discusses in detail what should be reviewed on a daily basis to keep the server healthy. Also, chapter 7, Troubleshooting, provides information to diagnose problems that may occur on the EmailXtender server.
Here is a small check list of the bare minimum that should be verified daily on the EmailXtender server:
1. Verify all EmailXtender services are running. The exception is the EmailXtender Transport Service.
2. If using the live journal functionality, check the journaling mailbox to make sure messages are leaving it.
3. Check the OTG and Application event logs for errors.
4. Check the private MSMQ. Files should flow and not back up in any one queue.
5. Verify indexing is occurring. The index dropdir can have files in it, but these files will decrement.
It would be best to check with support before clearing files in Message Center or Payload. If a folder that should not be removed is deleted, it could cause data loss.
Inside the Maintenance chapter is a subsection on indexing, and how to tackle the red and blue exclamation points. It begins on page 6-30 with the Health Check tool.
The most common gotchas are:
1. Upgrading to a new build or applying a hot fix without being signed on as the EmailXtender account or on console 0.
2. Not stopping or suspending services when backups commence.
3. Running anti-virus on the EmailXtender server without proper exclusions. It is best to not run anti-virus on the EmailXtender server at all.
I hope this helps.
