EX 4.81.1147 New install. Is EmailXtender contact created automatically?

Hello,  Exchange 2003 environment.

We are installing our 2nd EX server for our 2nd Exchange Org.

Following instructions as well as the training guides I have from training,  I cannot see whether I am supposed to create the EmailXtender contact that I believe EXSearch Plugin clients use to locate the EX server, or whether it is created at some point.

I've just gone through a complete installation and the EmailXtender contact does not exist yet.  I may have overlooked something or maybe i need to manually create it?

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

The EmailXtender Contact should be created automatically during installation.  Beyond that, EmailXtender will try to create and/or update the contact with the EmailXtender server information every time the EmailXtender Admin service starts.  If it does not exist you should get an error in the OTG event log like the following:

Source      : ExExchangeMgr.CoExExchangeMgr.1, VERSION: 4.81.1459
Routine     : ExExchangeMgr::CreateLocator()

The description in the error will either state that the cause is unknown or access is denied.  If the EmailXtender Service Account is not a member of the Domain Admins group it will not have the rights to create the object\contact in AD, which is the normal cause of this problem.

Hope this Helps!

Thanks for the information.

I don't see that error, yet, but I suspect the system is not getting that far because there is something wrong with our license.

I do get the following message:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: EmailXtender
Event Category: Administrator
Event ID: 0
Date:  09/12/2009
Time:  9:32:07 AM
User:  N/A
Computer: CAWLKESA20
Description:
Error - EmailXtender Invalid License. Reason: Evaluation Period Over.

When I installed EX i choose 30 day evaluation license so that i can continue but that must not have stuck because License manager shows no license.  I currently have a ticket open to determine why I cannot use the LAC I was given to get a licence key.
