EmailXtender v4.8 - How Many Journal Mailboxes to Have

Hello,

I am running EmailXtender version 4.8 and have the following on physical servers in the same data center:

  • EmailExtender on 32Bit server 2003
  • SQL on 64 Bit Server 2003 16GB RAM
  • Drobo NAS Storage for EmailXtender
  • 16 Exchange 2003 Mailbox Servers
    • Each mailbox server journals email to an individual mailbox on the mailbox server. Effectively, I have 16 journal mailboxes
    • There are currently 3.5 million messages in the journal mailboxes possibly the oldest message is 2-4 weeks old

EmailXtender takes FOREVER to search, and FOREVER to move the messages from the journal mailboxes to the Drobo NAS.

Is it more efficient to have ONE journal mailbox and have EmailXtender collect mails from ONE journal mailbox, or keep it at 16 simultaneous mailboxes?

Thanks.

How many Journaling tasks are configured to run concurrently on the S1 Server?

The Default is 4

I personally prefer a journal mailbox per server as it avoids connectivity issues.

Greetings,

Here are few things to consider or check:

1. MsgCenter, indexes, Emx files, SQL db, SQL logs, Msmq should be on separate physical disks (not logical).

2. Try to make sure mails are being journal into journaling mailboxes that are preferably local to EmailXtender server.

3. Check health of EmailXtender database. Make sure indexes are in good shape.
