EmailXtender - should I migrate to Source One?

Hello

I have been running EmailXtender since 2003 and the system is on its last legs and needs to be replaced, migrated, outsourced, etc...  It has been a good product over the years and EMC’s support has been excellent.

I have 72 million email messages and about 3TB of data going back 8 years.

I am doing the cost analysis for migrating to Source One, replacing with Symantec Enterprise Vault or simply outsourcing to one of the many providers.

In house is preferred but system is a large drain in internal IT support.

Outsourcing is very appealing but cost to move 72 million emails to a 3rd party is not cheap.

I assume there are some people on this forum who have moved from EmailXtender to Source One.  How  has that gone and if you knew before the migration what you know now what would you change?

Also does my maintenance contract on EmailXtender cover me for the upgrade at no cost or do you have to pay for the original software and licenses from scratch?

Any other thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated.  I am happy to share my experience as I get stuck into this project over the coming weeks.

Thanks

dMb

Darren,

I can help with the licensing part of your question.

If you are an EmailXtender Customer, and have a valid (ie : paid for) Support and Maintenance agreement in place then EMC Source One Email Management Software is Free. All that is needed is to contact your EMC Account Manager to have him Order you the No Cost "LAC Letter" to allow you to download/Unzip the Software.

Hopefully the User Community will be able to provide some feedback on your other questions and don't hesitate to contact us directly if you would like to discuss EMC Source One Email Management Software with us.

Regards

Stephane.

This work may already be in the works, but....

If you are looking to actually migrate you data - not simply installing the new system - then you will want to get a cost estimate for the data migration.

In regards to the LAC Letter - I assume this would enable you to actually install the system on your own without requiring a consultant? We've been looking to move from EmailXtender to SourceOne. We own the software/user licenses, but there are still a lot of consultant fees we will incur in order to migrate from one to the other.

The LAC Letter is your means of obtaining the new license file(s).  Physically installing the software and migrating the data from EX to SourceOne is where professional services would come into play since it's a rather involved process.
