Deactivated Shortcut-Plugin

We are working with EX since more then 3 years, and are more or less happy with it. But since a couple of days several users have the problem, that the shortcut-plugin in outlook goes "deactivated", so they cannot resolve shortcutted emails. Any ideas about this issue?

I've never heard of the plugin becoming deactivated. What is the exact message they're getting when they try to access a shortcutted message? What version of EX, Exchange and Outlook?

If the users have shortcuts in pst files, is possible than they need EmailXtender Search plugin. In addition you need addin shortcut.

I recommend it.

Hi Guido,

Which version of EX are you running ? Which version of Outlook ?
Do you have third party add-in installed for outlook ?

There has been few conflicts which have been found in past. If its happening regularly please raise SR with support.

Also look at details of SDR 20106 and 21397 in the release notes of 4.81.564 patch kit.

Hope this helps.

We are running 4.81.409 and Outlook 2003 SP2/SP3. We didn't had this problem with 4.70 Versions. We have no other third party add-ins installed in outlook. This weekend I made the upgrade to 4.81.564. I will make some test this week. If the problem still occurs, I will rollout UserCache on these clients to be independent of the shortcut add-in.

I was told by EMC that the UserCache is a best practice in Outlook environments for every client. Kind of a license issue as it is additinal cost. The advantage is to be independant of the shortcut resolution and you can search locally. - I haven't had the problem with "deactivated" search plugins so far for Outlook 2003 with EX 4.8 SP1. The search client opened up slower, but worked okay.
