Hugo,

Good Day.

Some tweaking in internet explorer/firefox may be in order to block access to for the EmailXtender Web interface under internet options.

Or if you wanted to block access through permissions in IIS... (Not necessarily recommended) you can try that.

As for Outlook. This is much easier. Uninstall the search plugin, and re-install the ExShortcutAddin.

This will allow shortcut resolution however, no search will be available.

Hello to all,

if you have users with PSTs files, you would must installed EmailXtender Search Plugin.

I don't know if without this you will can open shortcut from PST files.

Pit,

When you install the search plugin you are installing 2 components with the install:

- The EmailXtender Search Pugin
- The EmailXtender Shortcut Addin.

The Shortcut addin is all that is required to resolve shortcut mail messages from the client machine. Inbox or PST will still utilize the Shortcut Addin.

Hi:

Actually our environment is really simple. We don't have shortcut enabled and we will like to block users to access the web interface and do no run the outlook client.

I probably can block via a GPO the installation and execution of the outlook client but we are not sure how to block them from the web interface. We are running IIS and Exchange 2003.

Thanks

Hugo,

I've just had an opportunity to look into this query and believe I've found an appropriate solution for you.

On the EmailXtender Server:

Navigate to \Program Files\OTG\EmailXtender\Home Directory.

Within this virtual directory is a file called default.htm. This is the page for EmailXtender Web Search.

I have copied and renamed the original default.htm file out of the virtual directory and replaced it with a custom Default.htm file created with notepad.

Outline within whatever you deem necessary (HTML coding experience could be used to make it tidy)

In my environment I put:
EmailXtender Web Search is not available for User access as per ##### policy.

Please contact your helpdesk if access is required.

Hope this helps you out!

Thanks Chris:

2 points:

1. If I follow your approach how can I grant them access when somebody contact tech support and request access to the interface?.

2. Since I just want to block access to certain users I was wondering if there was an easy way to denied access to the web interface.

Thanks

1. Distribute the search plugin to their machine.

2. I attempted to toy with my environment on Monday to see if I could find a way to block a specific distribution list from read/write/execute of the EmailXtender page in IIS. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find success with this.

That said, you can always utilize the solution I provided and give another link for the websearch (providing you leave the renamed.htm within the virtual directory) But then you'll have to be concerned about word of mouth.
