Archiving Messages from Exchange Server in Storage Group Recovery Mode

Can EmailXtender process (archive) messages stored on an Exchange Server in "Storage Group Recovery Mode"? Customer wants to archive messages that were restored from backups onto a "Temporary" Exchange Server. The Exchange Server is now in (Read Only) "Recovery Mode", and the question is will EmailXtender work OK in this environment? We need to verify before moving forward. Thank you!

Hi there,

I very much doubt this is possible. Not from an EmailXtender point of view, but from Exchange. - To my understanding, the mailboxes in the "recovery storage goup" can not be accessed via MAPI. What cannot be accessed by a normal Outlook cannot be accessed by EmailXtender.

EX finds mailboxes by looking the user up in the GAL (Global Address List) and by asking Exchange, on which Exchange server this user resides its mailbox (very simply put). While an "revocery storage group" is active, nothing is changed either in the GAL nor in AD (where the info about the users mailboxes is hosted).

The "recovery storage group" was designed to recover Exchange servers and database content. You can use ExMerge or a Recover Mailbox Data functionality (to merge data with active mailboxes without using ExMerge).

The only way I see would be to ExMerge the data into PSTs... :-(

I hope this helps...
Keep well, Jochen.
