Added new exchange server to environment and EmailXtender is not working
I have clearly missed something and need it pointed out to me. We recently experienced a hardware failure on one node of a 2 node Exchange 2003 cluster. We built a new cluster and migrated all of the mailboxes to the new cluster. Now none of my users who have mailboxes on the new cluster can access shortcut e-mail tags. On top of that, no one in the enterprise can retrieve Public Folder shortcut items if they are pointed to the new cluster, which happens to have a Public Folder store on it and is a replication partner. I am POSITIVE that I have missed some very important steps pertaining to EmailXtender and how it interoperates with this new cluster. Please lead the blind here and help me restore shortcut retrieval.

The service account established for EmailXtender has full rights to every store on the new server.

Review the section of the Admin Manual on setting access permission for the service account on the data store if it's not set at the org level or it's not set to propagate.

Including Read-As and Send-As and they aren't blocked with a Deny?
What version on Exchange?
The easy way to test if the permissions are set properly is to log into EmailXtender with the Service Account.
Open outlook and use the Open "Other Users Folder" to verify you can view another mailbox.

Greetings,
Is the new Exchange server has the same name as before ? If not then other than permissions please check the connection mailbox. Its stored in registry keys and could be pointing to the old location. You will have to remove previous entry, add connection mailbox again and activate changes in the EX Admin GUI.

I followed this KB article https://solutions.emc.com/emcsolutionview.asp?id=esg112284 and updated the registry to include the new server name, with the 3 ~ and then repeating the server name, example: newserver~~~newserver. It looks exactly like the other 5 servers already in the list. I rebooted the EX server after making the registry change. I looked in the GUI this morning and the Activate Changes option is greyed out. Have a created a worse situation for myself be rebooting the server after making the change?

There aren't any explicit deny security settings. I have opened Outlook on the EmailXtender server as the service account and successfully opened a mailbox located on the new server cluster.
Another user suggested that I edit the registry to add the new email server, which I have already done as per the KB article ESG112284 https://solutions.emc.com/emcsolutionview.asp?id=esg112284. I also rebooted the EX server after editing the registry. But he also says I need to activate the change via the EX Admin GUI. The Activate Changes option is greyed out. Have I shot myself in hte foot by rebooting the server after editing the registry?

Greetings,
If activate changes is grayed out then changes are already applied. Some times you may even see the error while selecting "Activate Changes" in such occurance restart of EmailXtender services would have activated the changed applied. The same is applicable since restart of server resulted in activating changes.
You didn't need to modify that registry keys because you have even the users that cannot resolve shortcuts. The solution note was applicable to public folders issue only.
All you needed to do was to use EmailXtender GUI to remove and add back connection mailboxes.
If this does not resolve the issue I would suggest speaking to EMC EmailXtender support for quicker resolution.
Thanks,
Rajan
