Access to shortcutted Attachments after Mailbox Migration
Dear Community,
We're using Microsoft Exchange 2016 / Hybrid Exchange Online. DeArchiveJobs for each Mailbox were initiated and successfully completed before Usermailboxes were migrated to exchange online.
Some Users moved emails to pst files long time ago, which still have shortcutted attachments inside them and now the users are not able to access the shortcutted attachments.
The Shortcut points to the onprem emc email archive and prompts for user credentials.
Is there a way to grant users with migrated mailboxes access to onpremises emc email archive to view/open the shortcutted attachments?
when a user enters the credentials, the prompt shows up again.
i was able to access the attachment by using a serviceuser which has still an onpremises mailbox and permission to acccess the users mailbox (where the shortcutted attachment is stored)

Greetings,
There may be a way however that may open another can of worms. Since it is hybrid setup I would assume users are still in local AD. You can try to add "Domain Users" as group on mapped folders and give this user "Read All" access. Problem with this approach is that users will be able to search other users emails if they have access to SourceOne Web Search.
In case you do not have large number of PST, you can try another approach. Get PSTs data to a mailbox, restore emails and put them back in PST or move to user mailbox whom those PST belong.
Thanks,

Hey @OddHarald
This is a commonly overlooked aspect of a mailbox migration when the mailbox has been migrated. The archived content also has to be migrated and remediation done for the existing shortcuts so that it does not appear to have duplicate content to your users when you are done.
The for mass mailbox migrations, the best thing to do is use a third party solution to migrate the contents in SourceOne to Exchange like Quest's Archive Shuttle (shameless self plug) or other.
Some try native tools, but these tools were really not designed for mass exports and most who try end up going with third party solutions as well.
If you need more details about this please feel free to reach out to me.
