SOAR Mentor Spotlight: Cindy Aucoin

The Soar with Mentor program is proud to spotlight one of our inspiring mentors: Cindy Aucoin.

Meet Cindy Aucoin: Cindy is the Director and Head of Infrastructure & Operations at the Department of Cyber Security and Digital Solutions (CSDS) for the Government of Nova Scotia. She joined the Soar with Mentor program because of her own experiences early in her career. When she started working in the oil and gas industry, she often found herself as the only woman in the room in a technical role. This unique position presented both challenges and opportunities, and it made her realize the importance of support and mentorship for women in similar situations.

Throughout her career, she has been fortunate to have several mentors who provided invaluable advice and feedback. She leveraged their insights to better understand the organization and its culture, and to bounce ideas off them. Their guidance has been instrumental in her professional growth and success.

By participating in the Soar with Mentor program, Cindy hopes to provide guidance and encouragement to other women who are navigating non-traditional career paths. She believes that sharing her experiences and insights can help them overcome obstacles and achieve their professional goals. It's important to her to contribute to a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in all fields.

Cindy chose the song Life is a Highway by the Rascal Flatts as a song that describes her journey! She loves that it is upbeat and has a positive message about life's journey, which is always changing. Beyond music, she follows the Diary of a CEO podcast and the Mel Robbins podcast.

Cindy is excited about AI and Cloud, as well as the backend infrastructure that supports them. AI will revolutionize various industries by enabling smarter decision-making and automating complex tasks. Cloud technology offers unparalleled scalability and flexibility, allowing businesses to innovate and grow rapidly. The backend infrastructure is the backbone that ensures these technologies run smoothly and efficiently, making it possible to deliver robust and reliable solutions.

Something that most people don’t know about Cindy is that she’s a passionate football mom who loves watching her son play university football. 

Cindy’s advice for mentees is to always be willing to be yourself and open to new opportunities.
