Switch Down False Alarm

Hi all, I'm experiencing switch down false alarm. I have checked using cli to ping and telnet the switches and they are fine and working. Doing snmpwalk also returns fine. I have tried to delete the devices and rediscovered them again, but few minutes later they show the false alarm/notification again. The switches I'm using are Cisco ME 3750. Not all ME 3750 switches showing the same symptom only few of them (currently there are four). I'm using SAM version 8.1.3 and IP AM 8.1.3. Are there anyone here have been experiencing the same problem? Please advice.

EMC technical support has found the problem. It is related to SNMP address of the devices are duplicating with IP address on other device. To fix this problem one must change the IP address in one of the duplicated ip address device, or using IP tagging filter/VPN tagging.

I hope this will help others who ran in to the same problem.

Hello Andri, I detected a similar problme. But it was not a false alert. The system is doing a ping -s. So it can be that a ping from cli tells you system alive. But if you do a ping -s you'll see that not all ping requests gets answered.

Hi Adrian. Thanks for your suggestion, but I have tried ping -s and also use server tools to ping the devices in question. They all replied all ping request successfully. I have not found any connectivity problem (ICMP/SNMP ok).

When you tried to rediscovered the devices they failed with DiscoveryErrorInfo = No Response from Ping.
