Smarts licensing problem

EMC Ionix Service Assurance Management suite licensing issues

The steps that I took in order to license the Ionix product:

Step 1. Installing of all EMC Ionix modules that were provided. The operating system used is Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition (64bit). The directory with the installed products looks like this:

Step 2. Installing the permanent license file by following the procedure described in the administration guide:

Quote “Phase I: Set up the permanent license file and the FLEXnet license server

For Phase I, on the system where the Broker resides, perform these steps:

1. If you previously used a temporary license (copied smarts.lic to the BASEDIR/smarts/local/conf directory), you need to delete it, because it will cause the install_license script to fail later in step 4 .

2. When you receive the permanent license file, save the attachment to a file named <host_id>.smarts.lic in your BASEDIR directory on the system where the license server will run.

Typically, this location should be the same host and BASEDIR as for the Broker.

By default, BASEDIR is /opt/InCharge7/<productsuite>”

“4. Install the FLEXnet license server using the install_license script. By default, this file is located in the BASEDIR/smarts/script directory.

You must run the install_license script on the same system where the license server runs. This script requires administrative privileges. You must specify the full path to the permanent license file.

C:\InCharge7\SAM\smarts\script>install_license.cmd install

<path to license file>\<host_ID>.smarts.lic”

The scipt has been executed with no errors.

As a result of this step, the following file (smarts.lic) appeared in the following directory:

“5. Start the FLEXnet license server.”

Step3. I rebooted the server. After rebooting, I opened the system services in order to see if EMC services started, as espected.

As it can be seen, from the picture above, most of the services didn’t start. When I tried to start them manually, an error message appeared.

Step 4. I repeated the procedure for the PRODUCTS: ESM, IP and NPM => the following message appears:

As a result of the script, a file named smarts.lic appeared in each component directory: E:\InCharge8\PRODUCT\smarts\local\conf

Step 5. I have also tried to force the license server to reread the license file. So I invoked the following command from the rest of the products folders:

C:\InCharge8\ESM\smarts\bin\system\lmutil lmreread –c 1744@localhost

C:\InCharge8\IP\smarts\bin\system\lmutil lmreread –c 1744@localhost

C:\InCharge8\NPM\smarts\bin\system\lmutil lmreread –c 1744@localhost

After performing all of this steps, the EMC services still didn’t started. Anyone had this problem before and can help me?

Problem solved!

When i first generated the hostid for licensing, 2 hostids were provided (one for each network card). The license was generated for only one network card. On the server where i installed the ionix products I disabled one network card and is was the one that the license applied to. My problem was resolved by simply enabling that network card.
