SAM Containment section wrong alignment

I installed latest version of smarts (SAM 7.1.0.1, IP 7.0.0.2) and discovered a little part of my network (75 hosts, routers and switches).
If I look at the "containment" section for an object in AM-PM manager all works fine, I noticed that something is changed and there is more detail from previous versions that is really good.

Now the problem. If I open the containment view from SAM Manager (from map view or topology browser) I see data cells under the wrong columns.
For example:
From the AM-PM point of view, for a switch under the Network Adapters tag in containment view, I see these columns: DisplayName, AdminStatus, OperStatus, Type, Name, Mode, CurrentUtilization and PeerSystemName. All cells under these columns are OK and AM/PM Manager seems to work fine correctly reporting all details.
From the SAM point of view, for the same switch under the same Network Adapters tag, I see these columns: DisplayName, AdminStatus, OperStatus, Mode, CurrentUtilization, PeerSystemName.
As you can see two columns are missing: Type and Name.
What is bad is that all cells under columns are not correctly aligned for that two missing columns, and what I see is that cell content for "Type" columns is now under Mode Column and so on, ending with the "PeerSystemName" column that contains "Mode" column data (for example under PeerSystemName I read a list of "NORMAL" cells, and under CurrentUtilization I see a list of port names).

I tried to reinstall all software from scratch but problem persists. I tried to install just AM manager (without PM) but again it doesn't work fine.

What do you think? A bug? Have you any advice? (with IP 7.0.0.1 all seems work fine, but it lacks for important features for me!)

Thanks,
Lorenzo.

Hi,

It does indeed sounds like a bug. Did you try installing SAM 7.0.1 instead of 7.10.1?
I would love to help further trying to reproduce this in my developing enviroment but my licenses just expired and it will take a little while until we get new ones.
But you should report this to SMARTS support through a service request

cheers

Fernando

Problem disappears only with a downgrade of IP Manager down to 7.0.1.x.
I think that IP Manager 7.0.2.0 has changed inter-manager communications with SAM manager and the actual SAM is not ready for the new IP module.
I'll open a service request.

Thanks,
Lorenzo.

OK,

That sounds like an option! i guess they have released 7.0.2 quickly in order to fix some stuff and ...
Would you mind to post the reply from support in the forum?

thanks in advance

Hi Lorenzo,

I detected the same problem. We have SAM 7.1.02 installed and IP 7.0.SP2. The problem is related to the new fields EMC added to the containment view on the IP 7.0. SP2. I opened a case on powerlink. As soon as I get a feedback I'll update the entry in the forum.

NOTE: The containment view can be changed (add new fields). The file which has to be changed on SAM is /local/conf/maps/MAP-CONTAINMENT.import. For example we added a field called "IsManaged" for the NetworkAdapters.
On the IP the file is located in /local/conf/icim-core

Adrian

Thanks Adrian,
I'll try to modify MAP-CONTAINMENT.import to patch the problem.
Anyway service request confirmed that is a bug and will be fixed in the next patch release.
I found another problem in IP 7.0.2. user-defined-connection.conf doesn't work anymore and I cannot create undiscovered connections.
Adrian, using IP 7.0.2, have you found the same problem?

Thanks in advance,
Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo,

We do not use the file userdefined-connections.conf right now. But we may use it in the future. If we will'make first tests, I'll let you know the output.

Regarding the containment view problem, I'm awaiting engineering feedback with a clear statement to update the forum entry.

Feedback from EMC support:
* The hotfix which I requested for this in SAM v7.1 has been approved.
* I expect this will be released within 3-4 weeks.

Thanks adrian,
I hope EMC will release a patch soon.. I'll open another service request for smarts IP 7.0.2 module and user-defined.connection.conf. I think it's definitively not working.

Hi Lorenzo,

Please see feedback to our Service Request 20655586:

Hi Adrian,

Just to follow up on this, the hotfix for this issue will be released on Nov 13th. I will forward you details on where you can download this from on that date.

Regards,
Declan

I'll update the entry as soon as I get the details. Note, the problem is not on the IP part. The fix will be for SAM 7.1. They have to adapt the new containment fields which they added in the IP section.

Adrian

Hi Lorenzo,

I got a hotfix for SAM to solve the containment issue. At the moment I'm not able to test it. Do you have time?
Anyway I would like to send you the hotfix patch it's SAM 7.1.0.8.
I think it's not possible to attache a file to the forum.
email: adrian.dietrich@swisscom.com

If you send an email, I'll send you the patch.

Regards,
Ada
