restricting a user view on the map console
is it possible to create a user to view only certain elements or devices with the map console. I know it can be done with the notification list but not sure of the map console.

One is configuring a kind of Hierarchical domains ... so you will have differente domains for each map, and you can have a super SAM on top of them.
Another way is filtering by kind of device and ip/name, etc ... and then save it as console.
As i said none of them are ideal because if you have lots of devices and lots of different maps, make life difficult
hope this helps, otherwise i`ll try to explain more in deep

how do i configure domains for each map the problem we have is that when the view is restricted with a user account associated with a profile when the map is shown on the left hand side we have topology browser which displays everything that is in smarts which we don,t want we are a service provider we want our customer to access only thier routers and also able to view thier routers and also with the topology browser only browse their devices.
the second options of filter and save as a console i am not sure it will work. as this has nothing to do with the map

both ways are explained in the manuals ... sa_deploy explains about hiecherarchical domains.
You can have an AM-PM per customer as well as a SAM and then a SAM on top of them looking to all alarms.
Once it's in place is nice because you have different containers for each customer. although you migh loose the network connectivity on the topology because there is none between domains.
2nd option takes more administrative work, you have to go through your AM-PM domain and save the console.
Whilst in the domain manager (AM-PM), right-click on the tree (where you can see your devices). You will get a menu with the 'Select..' option ... Then you can select the type of devices and the devices you can see in the topology tree and therefore on your console.
your saved console preferences will be as follows:

well it's a bit difficult to explain on the forum but this what the manual states:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filtering topology
The topology filter enables you to control which classes and specific instances appear
in the Topology Browser. You can specify a filter for each attached Smarts Manager
and create a general filter for attached Smarts Managers that are not assigned filters.
Filter criteria are saved if you save your consoles.
To specify filtering criteria:
1. Right-click in the topology tree panel.
2. In the shortcut menu, select Select to display the Select tree content dialog box.
3. In the Select tree content dialog box, you can:
¿ Select All attached domains to apply the filter to all attached Smarts
Managers.
¿ Select Current domain to apply the filter to the selected Smarts Manager.
¿ Display all the classes including classes without instances. Select the Show
classes with no instances checkbox.
¿ Display one or more specific classes. Select the class. To select multiple classes,
press the Ctrl key while making your selections.
¿ If you select classes that have instances, you can also select specific instances.
4. To make your changes take effect, you must click OK.
To undo filter changes:
1. Display the Select tree content dialog box.
2. Clear the Include only selected classes checkbox.
3. Click OK.
Note: To make additional changes, expand the tree. Or, right-click and select Select again.

i hope this helps
cheers
