map icons in Ionix
Anyone have pointers to getting custom gif files into Ionix and mapping to custom ICIM object? Documentation is not too clear on this process.

Andrew,
I guess I am not entirely clear what you are trying to do. In the Map Console, you can click on "Configure" and then "Edit Map Icons" to remap one of the existing icons to a particular class.
If you question is more around how to add *new* icons to the map, that is a lot more problematic. I think that the above menu option would allow you to choose gif files that are present in the CLASSPATH of the console. The next dilemma becomes how to distribute those icons to the various consoles in use.
Let me look around a bit and see if there is a way to do that.

We have created a custom object in ICIM and we want to install a custom icon file and then associate them in map console so that all instances use the new .gif file. I have tried doing this via documentation but the .gif file never shows up in the edit icons pick list. I can easily select an existing icon for the object but none of them make any sense to use.
The device is an Optical element WDM or SONET and we want to have our installation program install the .gif file and config the .conf files to have it available to select in the console.

Andrew,
I asked the development folks and this is the reply:
User-supplied icons for maps go in the SAM server installation's
local/images/icons
directory.
This is documented in the SAM Configuration Guide,
"Custom icons for map nodes" section.
If you followed those steps and it still doesn't work, please raise an service request so we can fix it.
Regards,
Bill
