Changing a password

Can you tell me how one changes a password? I found some references in other issues about the file

/SAM/smarts/local/conf/serverConnect.conf as well as /SAM/smarts/local/conf/serverConnect.conf and further investigation showed me that this file also exists in /CONSOLE/....

The references I found talked about changing passwords that came with the install back to their default, i.e. admin, oper.

If we have added a user and user profile to global manager administration which file(s) do we need to update in order to set the password. Once the user is setup and useable what is the correct process for changing the password?

can sm_edit be used to update just one of the entries? all of the references I found had the user updating the password for all of the accounts at the same time and I just need to update one of them. I wasn't sure if sm_edit, because of how it encrypts, needs you to change all of them or if it will just alter the one that is changed.

Any advice would be welcome.

thanks!

Stephani

You will want to use sm_edit to make any changes to the serverConnect or clientConnect.conf files.  Please only make changes to the .conf files located under smarts/local/conf.  Yes you can use sm_edit to update/change just one entry, you don't have to change all when editing.  All of the untouched passwords will remain encrypted.
