ESRS Gateway and VMware upgrade

Hello,

We've a ESRS gateway that is running on a windows virtual machine.  The host that this vm is on needs to be upgraded from ESXi5.0 to ESXi5.5.  Can we vmotion the ESRS gateway vm to another host without breaking it?  After the upgrade we can move it back to the host it prefers.  What steps do we have to take to ensure that ESRS gateway works after the upgrade.  I opened a SR with EMC, but that has gone no where.  If the EMC/ESRS experts can respond, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks.

VMotion'ing the Gateway is probably going to break it.  Moving it back might bring it back to life if none of these conditons are true (1) server name was changed (2) the server was added to a domain or removed from a domain and (3) the MAC address changed.  Ask your local account team to open an ESRS Field Support Specialist request so someone can assist you with this.  The Gateway needs to be set Offline in ServiceLink by EMC so that the Missing status does not generate service requests needlessly.  They can assist you with reinstalling the Gateway if that becomes necessary.

ESRS gateway VM cannot be vMotioned.  It will break.

Here is the solution:

Shutdown the VM running the ESRS gateway.  Then put the host on maintenance mode which will migrate all the VMs including the ESRS gateway (which has been shutdown).  Upgrade the host and move the ESRS gateway back to the host.  Configure the DRS rules.  Then power the ESRS gateway back on.  This does the trick.

Thanks.
