ESRS - Flash content

Morning all,

We have recently installed ESRS Policy Manager 6.6 and having some fun with it.

Due to our infrastructure, we have our EMC Gateway and Policy manager servers set in a DMZ. This makes things slightly more difficult in getting firewall ports opened for access.

One issue I've come across is the crazy way 6.6 loads in a browser for the first time.

For some reason, known only unto itself, it decides that it wants to talk to multiple flash update sites before eventually looking in the Flexgui folder to find the flash files it needs. This means that there is a delay of about 8 minutes before it loads the Login screen for the first time. These files then reside in the user profile so that the next time the user loads the page, the login screen arrives within seconds.

Has anyone been able to get around this? my reason for asking is that we access our DMZ through a citrix client and our citrix servers are rebooted on a weekly basis, which rests the user profiles. So every week we find that we are waiting 8-10 minutes for the Policy manager login screen to appear.

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

Cheers

There is currently no work around for this. The Vendor complied the current Policy Manager with dynamic libraries that cause the Policy manager to go to Adobe to retrieve them . We at EMC are aware of the problem and have escalated it to the vendor - and it is fixed in their current release generic release of Policy Manager . Because of the EMC customizations that need to be applied to the Vendors code it is not currently available. EMC will include this in our next release of Policy Manager, however we do NOT have a projected release date as to when that will occur.

In an ideal implementation of ESRS with the Gateway in the DMZ the Policy Manager would / should be located on a host on your production environment which would normally have access to the internet thus eliminate this problem. The Policy Manager is NOT internet facing and would only need ports 8090 and 8443  outbound from the Gateway in the DMZ to the Policy Manager DMZ. EMC has NO access to you Policy Manager.  .
