A couple f questions here:
1. What version of ConnectEMC are you using ?
2 What Product are you using it on / for ?
3. From the host on which ConnectEMC is installed on can you connect to your mail server with telnet 25 ( note the space between the IP Address and the 25 ) ?
4 Can the host running ConnectEMC resolve the mail server host name ?

I am assuming that this is configured as a Block only system on a Virtual ESRS IP Client management station with a compatible OS. and prior to installing the software you opened the workstation system enviromental variables (Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Advance>Enviroment Varibles
You added new system variable EMC_CLARALERT_NOINTERNET value of 1 after taht you went to your saved folder and ran the latest ESRS IP Client wizard by right clicking and run as a different user credential and then went through the defaults and at the end unchecked the Launch ESRS Managment Utility.
On the desktop you opened ConnectEMC, opened General File ICON and opened the primary email connection properties
you modified the following: mail Server, alert type Drop down "Primary" Include data" yes, email type HTML and saved the connection record, then you clicked test button if sucessful it will show a connection log file in the last connection log directory.
Onces this is setup, run the ESRS Management Utility under Start > EMC> ESRS IP Client > Manament Utility
add your systems to be monitored by adding a systems IP address, it will list all other systems in that domain
IMPORTANT! Do not use the Configure Local Email Option! leave blnk, this may corrupt the ConnectEMC Primary Email connection record
After you set up your monitoring systems send a test alert which will send a CLI command "inserttestevent.
you can also execute this at a naviseccli command prompt with that command follow3d after the ip of a VNX ip.
your status of "Waiting" is normal when it is waiting for a connect home alert to pass through ConnectEMC after it processes through UDoctor.
Check the ConnectEMC last connection log directory. , , If the file does not show, open either a Live Chat at EMC Support.com for further troubleshooting , you may need to have the ESRS Ip client install logs availabe.

Hi Cal
thank you for your replies,
"your status of "Waiting" is normal when it is waiting for a connect home alert to pass through ConnectEMC after it processes through UDoctor."- is it normal when this status is for test connection?

Sorry for the delay, a test connect home should proceed through ConnectEMC and UDoctor .
If the status was busy I would have recommended to restart the management server on both SP's., in your situation if you see no connecy home log in ConnectEMC, there may be a issue in the setup. if you have performed all troubleshooting steps and still it shows waiting, open a ticket with the VNX team , it may involve a reinstall.
