How to delete a device in SCG?

Through a device discovery i accidently added 2 dracs from a scv3000 which do not work with the scg.

Now i wanted to remove these 2 devs or move them to a special group.

burny1978_0-1683711604884.png

I can only edit.

In edit mode, i cannot move the device to an other group.

The "Assign Group" cannot be changed.

Is this like it should be or is there something i am missing?

SCG is Version 5.14.00.16

Burny1978,

To clarify, if you check the box next to the device, it doesn't make any of the options available? Also, if you try and select them both first does that work? I ask as it might be because they are the same device and it caused some confusion.

Let me know what you see.

Hello, could you click on Chris' profile and send him a private message with your two service tags? We ask you not to disclose them in the public forum, please.

I tried to send private message, but there is an issue too:

Hi, it might be related to this note reference pg28-29 Secure Connect Gateway 5.x — Virtual Edition User's Guide (https://dell.to/3OhoR2c) "Devices that are inventoried and added in secure connect gateway through an adapter cannot be deleted. Those
devices are deleted automatically when either the adapter is deleted or the devices are removed from the systems
management console. If you add a device to secure connect gateway using the RESTful protocol, you must disable it
from the device user interface" Other than that nothing to came my mind.

The device was not added via an adapter.

I cannot disable it.

I don't know what is a cause because your steps seem right. Just an idea please check user permissions and ensure you are login as an administrator. If still same, I would try to move the device to another group and try again.

I am having the same problem, at some point i could delete devices, but not all of them. There is no adapter or discovery rule setting configured/ activated. There are no groups. When i click on "delete" there is a warning but the device is not deleted.

I got the same issue with a more than two years ago decommissioned Unity SAN. Click the delete option but device is not deleting. v5.16 logged on as admin.

I also have an issue where one of two Powerstore SANs automatically deleted itself. When checked one was in a Failed status. Removed it from SCG and disabled/enabled it again from the Powerstore GUI. It showed up again in SCG correctly but after a day (probably less) it remove itself from SCG.

Hi,

It seems you want to delete devices from Secure Connect Gateway. If you're unable to delete devices or make changes as expected, there might be specific limitations or configurations in the SCG software. Here are some steps to try:

  1. Check User Permissions: Ensure that you are logged in as an administrator or user with sufficient permissions to delete devices. Sometimes, certain users may not have the necessary privileges to perform certain actions.

  2. Check Dependencies: Make sure there are no dependencies or associations between the devices you want to delete and other devices, policies, or configurations within the SCG. If there are dependencies, you may need to remove them first.

  3. Device Status: Verify the status of the devices you want to delete. If a device is in a failed state or has issues, it might not be removable until those issues are resolved. Address any problems with the device itself before attempting to delete it.

  4. Group Assignments: If you want to move devices to a different group, ensure that the SCG software supports such operations. It's possible that certain devices cannot be moved to different groups, and their group assignments are fixed.

  5. Contact Software Phone Support: If you have followed the above steps and are still experiencing issues, it's a good idea to reach out to the SCG support team or consult the official documentation for the software. They can provide specific guidance on how to handle device management and troubleshoot any issues.

Regarding the Powerstore SANs automatically removing themselves from SCG, this could be due to various reasons such as communication issues, configuration problems, or device health. It's advisable to check the SCG logs for any error messages or events related to these devices. Additionally, work with the Powerstore SAN support team to investigate why the devices are being removed and to ensure they are correctly configured for SCG integration.

In summary, the specific steps for deleting or moving devices within Secure Connect Gateway (SCG) may vary depending on the software version and configurations. Refer to the official documentation or contact SCG support for detailed guidance tailored to your specific situation.

with kind regards Martin/ Liebe Grüße Martin
