Configure Dell Switch SNMP for Dell SCG not working

Having setup Dell SCG and seen my Devices all with a status of Success, I was surprised to have a PSU issue in a monitored switch and SCG not detect it.  On investigating further I can see that Monitoring is not enabled for my switches.  I am not sure what status of Success actually means?

Reviewing the Help Secure Connect Gateway 5.00.06.xy — Application Edition Online Help

I then added config 'snmp-server host XX.XX.XX.XX traps version 1 v1'.  Unfortunately this has not worked.  Any ideas of what to try next?

Dell informed me that this is 'by design'.  SCG cannot detect that SNMP has been setup of switches, so you have to setup SNMP and 'trust' it works or fault the device in someway to trigger an alert.

ABannister,

SCG primarily works off of SNMP traps, so from what you said if SNMP isn't configured until after the PSU issue on the switch, then it won't be reported after the fact. SCG won't pick it up since the trap is sent when the issue occurs. Since having configured it, you can test it by removing the PSU and see if the alert occurs now.

Now if you are referring to it not occurring for case creation, it won't, as it would need it to repeatedly occur to trigger that.

Let me know if this helps.

SNMP configured but SCG still not showing as monitoring.  Testing of PSU and generating errors did not raise any alerts.

Hi, I can't view the screenshot for now, it may appear late sometimes. Unless there is something about the screenshot that I may have overlooked. It is recommended to use only one solution for monitoring. Could it be being monitored by a different appliance, such as OME. Can you check this one?

Nothing else is monitoring snmp.  Now extending switch config with further snmp configs:

snmp-server community public ro
snmp-server enable traps snmp authentication
snmp-server enable traps snmp warmStart
snmp-server enable traps snmp coldStart
snmp-server enable traps snmp linkDown
snmp-server enable traps snmp linkUp
snmp-server host xx.xx.xx.xx traps version 1 v1

Still no change on SCG.  Shows Success (as normal) but when selecting device Monitoring is still showing as a Blue icon as above.

Hmm... I'm not sure what we are missing but it might be firmware versions. Can you check the firmware versions of your switches here? https://dell.to/34E3pQB

Dell Switch S4128F OS Version = 10.5.1.2

The link states latest firmware version 10.5.2.

ABannister,

After discussing the issue, what I would recommend is that you call in to the OpenManage group to discuss the issue with them directly, as they have suggested to me.

They should be able to get you taken care of.
