2022 migration from SRS 3.x to SCG 5.x

Performing due diligence prior to migration from SRS 3.x to SCG 5.x. I have the dell provided guidance. It looks like this is a fairly new category started in September of last year... 

We currently have more than a few SRS gateways. Any capacity planning suggestions, gotchas or warnings from the user base?

For that matter any guidance from the DELL SMEs beyond the docs?

Hi,

We are using SCG version 5.00.07.10. We upgraded it from SRS 3.5.X. Upgrade was also straightforward, as it first does a pre-check and tells if the configuration is supported and what needs to be done, like we had to increase CPU cores , Memory and Disk space. New version is Docker based. There are few commands to check after the install , if esrsde-app and saede-app are up and running fine and secureconnectgateway is connected/registered and DB is fine etc.

Only thing was that we had to open port 5700, as earlier it was using 9443

To be honest, the document that I have on migration of SRS to SCG is only this https://dell.to/3ndjSRQ which you already have. 

 

That document seems to be a complete guide for preparations and the upgrade has pre-checks before upgrades. In case if you face any issues with SRS migration, I may suggest to contact EMC support line for any troubleshooting.

Joey, Thanks for the reply. SCG was developed by Dell so not worried about it working those products. 

  1. Have you implemented SCG 5.x?
  2. Approx how many devices?
  3. How long have you used it thus far?
  4. Are you using it with specifically EMC (dell/emc) products?
  5. Our environment would include 20+ SRS device upgrades.

Thank you Bhuppi1 that is the kind of response I was looking for. So either we have one SCG deployment in the Dell community or a lot of people are not posting in Community. I have been a member of many technical distribution lists... They seem to have died off and even though Dell is providing a community for our use.. few are using it.

Hi,  Yes, one reason can also be , it is a fairly new product and some people are having some issues for sure.
I heard people got MQTT errors from EMC side. I mean when EMC Lab tried to dial-in to devices they get RA Forwarder/MQTT connection timeouts, but from client side, all files are being uploaded on regular basis fine.

But I am also sure lots of people are using it also. WebGUI is very nice with added features and all.

As we prepare for migration we hope that Dell/EMC/datadomain/wysdym/legato programmers still on the team follow the lead of the datadomain programmers... They seem to have the best in place proactive alerts and responses of the Dell products I am familiar with. I know we dont always get our wishes. But sure seems like the data domain program owners performed their due diligence and had great test/final code results. Maybe not in everything but alerts and support automation works.

Our upgrade worked okay to a point.  Our VMware service portal was brought in but none of our devices.  I am manually creating discovery rules and groups.  I also cannot get AD(LDAP) authentication working.  The documentation needs some examples instead of general "do this" steps.

Hi,  Our UNITY and ECS were not at all coming as 'Connected' in SCG. So, we again updated SCG from 5.00.07.10 to 5.10.00.10. And, now UNITY/ECS are all 'Connected' , 'Heartbeat'=Yes.  Also, we had to apply this two times - https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/000195104 (Before and After). All good.
