HANA make SAP good to be virtualized?
These days I spend some time on looking at SAP HANA and see Cisco UCS HANA solution. I think NAHA making SAP broken huge DB system’s bonds. HANA is using X86 open system hardware and running over SLES, this configuration is good to run over ESX and vSphere 5 does support 1000GB vRAM per VM.
Thoughts?
BTW, about IO performance. HANA is using in-money computing with leveraging Column-oriented DBMS, which make data better to be compressed; therefore HANA could store more data in RAM. It looks the technology make SAP more sensitive to RAM and CPU, rather than Disk IO. Any additional value storage able to add on?

Today SAP announced HANA is available on SAP Smart Meter Analytics on DSGA, it will be a number of years before SAP Business Suite can run on SAP HANA, therefore we would keep in our way for next years.

Today I attended SAP HANA Architecture introduction session on TechED Beijing. The good I received is HAHA can be virtualized and it is official.
HANA provide custom three ways to deploy system.
You might look at snap of this session material.

Hi Eddy - This is very exciting news for sure. I am a little confuse on the ways you mentioned HANA could potentially be deployed.
If I go with the VM option; does it mean that I am still buying an appliance or at that point it will be like buying a ceritfied HANA server from let's say Cisco and do the installation myself; as I would for any other virtualized system? What would be the differences between that model and buying a full fledge appliance? Will SAP give differente levels of support for the appliance when compared with the VM version?
Will the VM version target initially non-prod environemnts so people can a flavour of HANA without buying expensive HW?

I asked this speaker of this session with some similar question, I forwarded for your reference.
Custom do not need to buy those certified HW, because VMware does HW virtualization here.
About implantation, preferred to be done with SAP consultant or certified partner
When I asked about support level, he broken away to talk about “Virtualized solution would not maximize HAHA performance”, but I think it should be fine with consideration of the joint announcement, EMC/VMware and SAP made.

For now I have no much technical detail, sorry for that. NAHA and its virtualization is my interest. I’ll post any of my finding here

This one is not good…..
SAP is running support of HANA on Virtualization at difference level when compared with other products.
The following words is quoted from SAP note 1492000,
The General Support Statement applies to all SAP applications and components except the following:
1. BWA
2. HANA and HANA-related applications that use the new SAP in- memory technology
3. NetWeaver MDM

Paul, according current SAP support policy, HANA on Virtualization might be not a good selection due to lack of SAP office support.
The good to you is C460 is certified platform with HANA.
