WRITE error. Windows-text: 1- Incorrect function

Hi, I hope someone can help. I have just set up replistor 6.2 SP4 on 2 of my servers. However I am getting hundreds of the error below on my target server every minute.

WRITE error. file \\?\D:\Home. From site sourceserver file "D:\Home\". Write failed.
Windows-text: 1 - Incorrect function.

I can't seem to find any mention of this error in the support site on in the forums. Any help would be gratefully appreciated :-)

Unfortunately, this error is quite difficult to track down.

I have seen and attempted to debug this in the past (@ RepliStor 6.2.3.9, 6.2 SP3), but in that attempt, the issue was not re-producilbe and the investigation stopped.

The error you see is complaining about performing a write to a directory. However, a write is not performed on a directory, rather a create operation is done. I have observed that this issue is more noticable in an environment that the Source and Target are Windows 2003 and 2000, or visa versa. Some thing changed from the way a driectory is created on Windows 2000 to 2003.

Fortunately, the error does not seem to impact RepliStor from doing its job other than seeing a lot of these messages.

Here are your potential options:
- Create a support case w/ EMC to have this error debugged.
- Upgrade from Windows 2000, assuming it is still in use.
- Disregard the errors as they have no known issues during replication (Maintenance -> Options -> Log tab can be changed so that these errors do not fill up the Windows logs).

I would also advise that you upgrade to RepliStor 6.3 SP1. There is no fix for this at this version, but there have been changes made that may impact the debugging moving forward.

Cheers Duncan, you nailed it, we are using 2000 on the source and 2003 on the target. Many thanks for the help.
