Unable to find Navisphere CLI path

Yesterday the conversion from our old CX600, stocked with ATA drives to our new CX4-120 was completed. The disks in the CX4-120 are fiber and SATA II. Since moving to the new array, my snaps in RM have failed. We're currently using RM version 4.0.0.3. We're looking to up grade to 5.0 or 5.2, but don't know if we'll have funds to purchase version 5+, so I need to make this work. The error I get is below:

026377 ERROR: Unable to find Navisphere CLI path. Please install navisphere Cli to the default path, C:\Program Files\EMC\Navisphere CLI\.

I am currently running NaviHostAgent 6.28, and NaviCli 6.28. Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanks,
Jon

Jon,
I don't know if having a later than supported version of SE will cause the installer to fail, but I recommend you install 6.5.2.5 and try again. For RM you download SE from the RM downloads page. That is the only place you will find the odd versions of SE supported by RM. I wish RM supported the standard releases available from the SE download section.

Try that and see what happens.

Did you upgrade the host agents as part of the array upgrade? If so did you ensure that classic CLI was installed? If you perform a discovery from the RM console of the host does it produce the same error?

Thanks for the reply AranH...you've been very helpful to me in the past :-)

Anyway, yes, I did upgrade the Agent host, and did make sure that I selected to install classic CLI as well. And yes, from my RM server, when I try to "discover the array" for any Host, I receive the same error about "Unable to find Navisphere CLI path."

When I entered the path statement on my Hosts, I wasn't supposed to insert a "\" at the end of the string, or was I? For example, I added a path statement of:
C:\Program Files\EMC\Navisphere CLI. I thought I saw in an article where the path statement included a "\" at the very end (for example: c:\program files\emc\navisphere cli\). I doubt that is the issue, but thought I should mention that I did not insert that final "\"

You shouldn't have to on Windows 2003 or later, but I have seen it used both ways. Try it and see if that works.

Just out of curiosity, on the host in question can you run navicli commands without being in the navicli directory? This would show if the environment variable is working locally.

Also, I didn't check, but did you see if that version of the naviagent is compatible with such an old version of RM?

One other thought. Are you sure you have to purchase RM 5.x licenses? Did you check with your local EMC rep about transferring the RM 4 licenses to the RM 5?

Well, the problem is (I believe) that we had issues with some of our 4.0 licenses, and would either need to purchase additional 4.0 licenses, then upgrade; or just by 5.x licenses. But I am 99% sure that I am not eligible to just download 5.x due to existing license questions we have. Also, I'm fairly certain that we can't by 4.0 licenses anyway (unsupported now) and may be forced to buy 5.x

I know upgrading to 5.x would most likely resolve my issues too...that's what's making this so frustrating. Thanks for your help AranH.

That's too bad, hope you can find the budget for it. RM is getting to be real solid and the new features are great. We depend on it heavily for refreshing many development environments on a daily basis.

I opened SR with EMC, and tech got back to me and stated with the CX4 and flare 28, that I have no choice but to upgrade to RM 5.2. So, I guess I have to go the 5.2 route.

Thanks for your help AranH.

Hi Aran,

Well, we bought RM 5.2, and I received the software today. I used my LACs to generate my licenses, and as per the release notes, I downloaded Solutions Enabler 6.5.3 (they said I needed 6.5.2.5, but only saw 6.5.2 or 6.5.3 for my OS, so I downloaded the 6.5.3 version). I ran the solutions enabler 6.5.3 install, then tried running the RM 5.2 setup. I get past the first 2 messages (first message indicates an earlier version of RM was detected, and this version would be upgraded; second message refered to needing .Net framework 2.0 to run the config checker at the end, but I can continue with setup for now). The next box I get is an error that reads:

"Unhandled Exception"
Error # 0x80004005
Description: Unspecified Error
Setup will now Terminate [OK]

Upon hitting OK, the screen closes, and install quits. Any suggestions before I open a SR with EMC?

As always, Thank You!
Jon
