RM 5.4.1.0: The application does not reside on supported storage

When trying to create a snapshot of a LUN with a VMFS datastore we're getting the following error:

The application does not reside on supported storage

When we're snapping the RDM connected to the replication manager server on the same array, it's working fine.

But when we try to schedule a snapshot of the datastore lun, we're getting the error above:

Version of the software installed:

We just have one RM server and array is a VNX5300 using FC.

Did you discover the storage and is the RLP showing up? In RM, go to Storage Service and see if the array is there.

Array is there, that's not the issue and we don't want to use clone's so CPL is empty. Via the RDM, it's detecting the array and showing my snapcache. If I try to make a snap of this RDM, it's working fine, it's only the datastore lun that I can't create a snapshot off.

The host that is being used as VM Proxy host, does that host see storage from the array? If that host is a VM assign a small 1GB LUN to that host as an RDM Physical device.

I've installed a seperate rm-proxy server, assigned a RDM and fixed some DNS stuff, all working fine now.

I guess we can't use the replication manager server as a proxy host for vm related replication stuff.

You can use the RM Server as proxy but just make sure that the host sees a disk device as RDM Physical. The requirement for a proxy host is that it has to see storage from the array. In case of a VM, assign a Physical RDM device to the RM Server and you'll be good to go.

didn't try it yet, currently testing some mirrorview/a setup. Making remote and local snap's of my datastore. Besides me assigning not enough lun's to the RLP, everything is working fine.

When done testing, I'm going to deinstall the proxy, map the RDM to the RM Server and then re-trying the setup.

Did you get a chance to do this or are you going to stick with the VM that you are using right now for RM Proxy? I've used the RM Server as RM Proxy many times before and it works as long as a physical RDM device is assigned to it.

Let me know, just curious.

Thanks.
