Replication Manager and Exchange 2003 VM
Hi,
I am looking at using replication manger to replicate my Exchange 2003 mailbox server to DR site consistantly.
The Exchange VM currently runs as a VM on vSphere and the mailboxes and logs reside of VMFS volumes. I have read that Exchange should not sit on VMFS volumes. Does this just refer to the mailboxes / logs which I could move to RDM?
Or do I need to install the MS iSCSI initiator within the guest and access the LUN that way.
I am using a VNXe 3300 currently too if that helps. I have tried to perform some initial tests but Replication Manager will not detect the VNXe for its storage array.
Assistance would be very much appreciated on this.
Thanks
JB

Correct. Database and Log LUN have to reside on Physical RDM devices.

OK. So when they are physical RDM then Replication Manager will pick up the array. Makes sense? I can do this with iSCSI initiatr too though right? (if I wanted to)
Thanks

When I try to discover the arrays with the pRDM I get the message below. May seem an obvious question but do I really need to set up replication before this? (just double checking :-))
"Replication Manager does not discover these storage arrays until the first replication occurs"

Yes you do. You have to configure replication before using RM.
You can use iSCSI initiator inside the VM.

I suppose a question - what are you trying to do?
RM should detect the VNXe during an array discovery with the right tools on the VM with pRDM or iSCSI MSI.
