Replication Manager 5.0 clone/snap DB2

Hi ,

I would like to know the steps to clone/snap a DB2 (9.5) running on a AIX server using RM 5.0 or RM 5.2. RM is installed on a windows 2003 server. Plz let me know the sequence of steps.

Thanks

Sri,

No need to apologize for asking questions, that is what these forums are for .

To answer your questions:

1. RM will take care of the mount of the replica to the mount host when the replication is complete, and will unmount the replica from the mount host when the replica has expired.

2. You can configure an RM job to run a script on the mount host once the job is complete and you can have your DBAs create a script that will mount the database. All you will need to do then is configure the job to run that script when the mount is complete.

Sri,

I am not familiar with DB2 or AIX requirements related to RM, but you should be able to find any specific requirements in the RM product guide. There is a section in the Product Guide called 'UDB Procedures', hopefully that will answer your application specific questions.

The steps for creating Application Sets and Replication Jobs are in the Product Guide also. Read through those sections and let me know if you have any specific questions that were not answered clearly in the guide.

You can find the RM Product Guide here:

Hi Aran,

I have a couple of questions:

1) DO we need to unmount the file system on the mount host or will replication manager take care of it because essentially I am trying to create a replica of a prod database and mount it to the mount host.

2) Once Replication is successful and mount of database is also done by RM, do DBA 's need to start up the database or RM will bring the database up?

I don't know if this is the right process to ask you Aran but left with no choice..I have gone through Product Guide but was not clear enough for a beginner in RM.

Sorry for the inconvenience.!

Thanks & Regards,

Sri

Aran,

I have a database sitting on 100 devices.The requirement is to clone everything present in the 100 devices.In the RM we have got 2 provisions : 1) File System clone and 2) Database clone { When creating an application set we see these options}

What difference does it exactly make if we clone the file system or clone a database. In this case do I need to go ahead with file system option or select database and create replica.

Appreciate ur time and effort Aran.

When you create an Application Set using the file system agent, you are manuall selecting the LUNs/Devices that will be used for replication. RM will then replicate those devices but there will be no application consistency to the data. If you use an application agent (Oracle, SQL, IBM UDB, Exchange) to create the Application Set, then the agent queries the application to discover which LUNs/Devices belong to the application. RM will interface with the application as part of the replication process to ensure that the data on the replicas is application consistent. So if the IBM UDB agent will work for your DB2 database then you should use that, but if the application agent is not an option for you then you will have to use the file system agent and create a crash consistent replica of the application data.

Hi Aran,

I have a doubt with respect to mounting a replica using Replication

Manager.I am mounting the replica to an alternate path on the mount host

and using Path Mapping option. Then in that case do I need to create mount

points on the mount point well in advance or the Replication Manager will

take care of it.

Thanks,

SRI
