Replication Managenr requirement for VMware VMFS & CLARiiON Mirrorview/a
Dear All,
I would like to replicate a VMware VMFS to remote CLARiiON, and found some requirement as document noted.
1. VMFS requires proxy host on Windows, a Windows virtual machine with Replication Manager client installed
Deos the virtual proxy host only need to install Repication Manger client?
2. In CLARiiON environments, the Replication Manager proxy agent must be able to access at least one placeholder LUN from
the CLARiiON where the VMFS data resides. The Placeholder LUN must be an RDM device.
Does it mean Replication Manager proxy host need to see all LUNs belong to ESX server?
3. At least one Replication Manager client must be connected and zoned to the remote CLARiiON array.
My environment is MirrorView over iSCSI connection, so how can I fulfill above requiremnt?
I have 2 virtual proxy host agent licenses, can I use one proxy host at remote site and use RDM methodology to this proxy server fulfill above requirement?
Thank you for your input.

As far as I can tell, RM has little interaction with MV/A. I suspect you can use it to snapshot your replicas but I've never done this. My MV/A setup is all configured and run through Unisphere. This makes my replicas crash-consistent - The only time I was able to do application-consistent replicas was with incremental SAN copy. In that case, you would need to have the RM virtual proxy licenses which I think you already have.
For requirement #3, you simply need a machine at your remote end that is registered with the Clariion and RM. It can be a VM with an RDM or any other type of host as far as I can tell. This, from my experience, is only needed to get the Clariion registered into RM. After that, it seems that the RM server interacts directly with the remote Clariion.
