Autostart 5.4 SP1: How does the line monitoring works?

Hello,

I have a question about Autostart 5.4 SP1. I always thought the monitoring of the domainlines using ping. In one of our projects, the servers are connected via Media Converter (cooper-fiber optic-cooper. look at the attached sketch).  If the fiber optic line is broken, autostart does not detected it as an error. Here only the presence of the link being monitored? Does Autostart only checked the link connection.
