Some questions about RecoverPoint for VM
Hi,
I have some questions about RP for VM, can somebody give me the answers ? Thank you.
1. In single site RP system configuration(CDP), can i replicate the VM within one vSphere cluster ? I.e. the Prod VM and CDP copy are in the same vSphere cluster.
2. RP for VM depends on vCenter, how to protect the vCenter VM itself?
3. Can Prod_VM/copy_VM/RP_Journal/RP_repository share the same vmfs datastore, if performance is not an issue ?
4. Are Windows VC and VCSA both supported by RP for VM ?
5. If i deploy the RPA VM's in a special vSphere cluster(different from the Prod cluster), which of the following datastores should be seen by the ESXi hosts in the RPA vSphere Cluster ?
a. RP repository datastore.
b. Journal datastore.
c. The Prod VM datastores in the Prod vSphere cluster.
d. All of above,
6. Can i register more than one RPA cluster to a vCenter ? And can a RPA cluster shared with more than one vCenter ?
7. In a multiple site RP system configuration, which vCenter should i perform the failover/failover/test operation ? The Prod vCenter or the copy vCenter ?
8. Can i deploy the vRPA VM on the ESXi local datastore(Not shared with other ESXi) ? Of course the repository datastore.and journal datastore will be shared.

Hi,
Have you taken a look at the Admin Guide or Installation and Deployment guide? I would start there first because you will find all of your answers there and some of them can be "it depends" so the explanations and follow-up are there. But for summary, here are some of the answers:
1. Yes
2. Depends - you can protect it with RP4VMs or use other solutions - this is more of a VMware architecture. Yes question
3. Yes - check out the Scale and Performance Guide for any impact.
4. Yes, I believe so
5. These requirements are in the Install and Deploy Guide
6. Yes - these limits and restrictions are in the Install Guide and Release Notes
7. This depends on the config
8. I don't believe so - the Install and Deploy guide will confirm.
