Snapshot Pruning - XIO+RP
Hello,
Is there a way we can calculate the snapshot pruning policy percentages, if the required protection window is changed? I ask, because I need to know how many snapshots will be roughly present for each period of time?
For clarity, if I change the required protection window to 5 days, what do the percentages look like? What are the different periods of time? I need to understand this so we can properly communicate the abilities of RP+XIO to application owners who will choose between different protection windows.

If you change the protection window to 5 days then nothing will happen as the 5 day window sits within the threshold of the 5 - 30 day category. If you change it to 4 days you will automatically remove the snapshots for the 5 - 30 days category and the 5% allocation from the 5 - 30 day category will be assigned to the 0 - 2 hours percentage total, i.e. it will become 45% from 40%.

Hi there,
If the protection window is less than 30 days which is the default, the pruning mechanism will ignore irrelevant time windows and adjust the remaining time windows to make up 100%.
In your example, no time windows will be be ignored (5 days is a part of the "oldest" time window) so the calculation of the percentage in each time window will remain as in the table.
Hope that helps,
