RP4VM v5.0 Image Access Log capacity
Hi
I am currently running RP4VM v5.0 and need to perform testing on 30 VMs replicated to DR site for a period of 24 hours at the DR site.
There is currently over 90% free in a 1 TB journal at the DR site. I have set up 7 CGs and using “Test Copy” to bring up the VMs in a dedicated Test network.
My issue is the journal capacity and the image Access Log capacity continues to fill up for all CGs and when the Image Access Log capacity reaches over 85% the test VMs in the CG are powered off and the Image Access Log (IAL) capacity is reset to 0%. This takes less than an hour for one CG. Noted for each CG in the "Recovery Activities" window in the plug-in.
What is the best way to prevent this happening or alternatively is there a better way to do the testing?
Options
a/ pause replication while testing via CLI
b/ increase the default size of the IAL ( default 20%) – do not know where or how to change the default
c/ increase journal size at DR (add additional vmdks to the journal)
d/ other option
Hope someone has done this or can advise
Idan

Hi there,
20% of the target journal is kept for writes on the replica VMDKs while in image access.
Pausing replication will not directly help if the issue is that the image access log fills up as writes which are being replicated are written different journal stream. If the issue is the amount of time in image access because of the size of the journal vs. the amount of production writes being replicated then pausing replicating is one way to go, another thing that can work is to add a remote copy in the location so that one can be used for extended image access (with direct image access) while the other copy, used for BC/DR can keep on running (links/copies are completely independent). note that pause/start transfer is available through the RP4VMs plugin as well.
The best solution in your case (image access log fills up) would be to increase the target journal (can be done online in the plugin).
Hope that helps,
