RP4VM: How to easily display replication status?
Hello,
I am a long-time vSphere Replication user and I am trying to wrap my head around RP4VM's user interface. Where can I see at-a-glance the replication status of all VMs being replicated, whether they are meeting their RPO, what percentage they are at in the replication process, how many MB or GB or TB are left to transfer, etc.? I am looking at the consistency group copy properties, and the place where I'd expect to see a progress bar, I see:
Transfer status: Init {percentage}
It shows the word "percentage" but not an actual percentage. I also can't see details on GB remaining, etc.
Is there a better place to look? Anywhere to look to see all replication sessions at-a-glance?

Couple of places wherein replication status can be checked.
1. vCenter home screen > RP4VM plugin > Dashboard
Here the Consistency group transfer status piechart indicates number of CGs in Active/Error/Init/paused/disabled state.
2. vCenter home screen > RP4VM plugin > Protection > consistency groups
When consistency group on left pane is selected, it shows all CGs transfer status.
When a individual CG is selected, either a tabular view or graphical view is shown as which site is prod and replica and replication status.
3. vCenter home screen > Hosts and clusters > select the protected VM > Manage > Recoverpoint for VMs
Here graphical representation is shown along all options to manage the CG and perform recovery tasks.
If you wish to take a look at all replication sessions in details, use option 2 as above. This will allow you to see all the sessions at once and 1 click on individual CG would provides the details on copy status.
In Recoverpoint, the replication is always shown with percentage in below scenario
1. first time initilization
2. highload
3. long resync
4. short init
the percentage is always fairly accurate i terms of how much transfer is left. The pending task in terms of MB or GB or TB is not shown nor the amount of total replication in MB/GB/TB over a period of time.
When using RP, the initial first sync or full replication is only a small part of the complete picture since once its done for the first time, only change data is replicated even when there is a testing done on the DR VM. So once the CG is in Active transfer state ideally it will remain in active state and doesn't require constant monitoring.
If there is a change in transfer due to an issue, events are triggered which can be used in notification for further actions.
The time when the transfer shows the word percentage not the actual %, it would be helpful if you could share the screenshot.

The plugin enhancements for the 5.0 release are extensive with one of the enhancements being an RPO lag stat for each CG.

Thanks Mohit. That is helpful. I just wish there was a way to see the exact # of GB remaining to transfer, because that gives customers a great idea of their change rate. For example if a DBA were to dump a 200 GB encrypted database dump onto a Protected VM, it will cause the replication to transmit 200 GB each time the DBA does this. Seeing the percentage remaining is helpful, but it's even more helpful to see actual GB of transfer data to help see change rate patterns. This is how vSphere Replication displays the transfer status, so I would suggest EMC considers adding this to RP4VMs also. Also, here is a screen shot showing the Init {Percentage}. It seems to occur during the initial sync process. I assume this is a GUI bug?
