RecoverPoint with 1 VNX 5300 Unified at each data center

Hi Team,

We have a customer who has 2 data centers some 30 kms away from each other and 1 VNX 5300 Unified storage is available at each data center. The customer wants asynchronous replication to happen and so they have got 1 recover point appliance which they will be keeping at primary site.

In that case, can you tell me how will the connectivity be happening from the storage to RPA. Also, through which protocol will this replication happen.

Since i am new to recoverpoint, kindly guide me on the above query.

Regards,

Pratik.

Hi Holyboy,

I try to answer your question,

1. You can using 2 ethernet ports, one for WAN and one for Management (connect to local network). For further instructions, you can download recoverpoint procedure generator.

2. I think the floating / virtual IP must same network with each of RPA IP address, you can setting this in RP Deployment manager

3. Yes, you can perform automatic zoning but make sure the automatic zoning not interfere your existing zoning. Personally, I more confidence with manual zoning. You can obtain RPA WWN port using ssh to your each of RPA, login using boxmgmt then choose Diagnostics --> Fibre Channel Diagnostics --> View Fibre Channel Details. Then you can create manual zoning in your SAN Switch. In my case, Connect two fibre channel cable in each of RPA (for redundant purpose)

4. You must install recoverpoint splitter enabler first in your VNX, when VNX already recognize your RPA so make sure the initiator type is RecoverPoint Appliance not Clariion Open or another initiator type.

5. Yes, connect RPA WAN port directly switch which connected to your remote site

I advise you for download Recoverpoint procedure generator, it's very good and the instruction very clear. Feel free for ask the question. Thank you

Hi there,

It is not possible to form an RP cluster using 1 RPA. For a CRR cluster you will require two RPAs per site. Please refer to the RP Deployment Manager Product Guide on PowerLink for guidance.

Hi All,

Correction. There are 2 GEN 4 RPA's at each site which will be in cluster. I have few queries regarding initial configuration:

1) We have 4 NIC ports at the backend of each RPA; LAN, WAN, & 2 GbE ports. How many ports are to be used if we want to create a RPA cluster.

2) If i have IP from a specific VLAN that will connect to LAN ports on both the RPA's, does the cluster IP should also belong to same VLAN only ?

3) If i am not mistaken, connectivity from storage to RPA's will happen through SAN switch only. In that case, automatic zoning will perform the zoning accordingly ?

4) At storage end, i have applied the splitter enabler. What else should be applied before we start with RPA installation & configuration.

5) We have 45 Mbps link between 2 DC's which is dedicated only for replication. In such case, will my WAN port directly connect to the NW switch (since the 45 Mbps link is terminating here) or we have to do something else.

Kindly suggest on the above queries.

Regards,

Pratik.
