Recoverpoint Journal

Friends

Trying to
understand the concept of Journals in RecoverPoint.

Let’s say
I have local replication configured, so I have a host writing to the storage
array and the splitter sending the I/O to the journal and the journal updating
the local replica

Question
1: Is the Local replica a separate LUN from the production LUN on the same
array or can it be a LUN on a different array

Question
2: Let’s say I am setting up RP for the first time. at this point what does the
Journal contain and what does the local replica contain >>>nothing?

Question 3
: Once set up what does the journal hold- every write to the storage
volume?

Example let’s
say there is a file in the storage volume stating “ There are 100 sheep’s is
the farm” so from my understanding this is recorded both in journal and storage
volume

Let’s say
the user then updates the file to “ There are 200 sheep’s in the farm.. so data
in the storage volume is replaced ? and new entry is recorded in the journal as
“ There are 200 sheep’s in the farm?

User realizes
the count of the sheep was indeed 100 and wants to go back to. So what does he
do? does he simply mount the Journal volume to the time when the data was
correct ? what if the data was not in the journal what does he do then.

Question4: In the above example it just a file.. so probably we could get back data
form the journal… what if the entire database in the production volume got
corrupted due to a wrong entry.. how will we get back a good copy of the
production as the journal contains only the changes made at a particular time..
so how does it reconstruct the DB with only those changes?

Thanks

AJ
