RecoverPoint integration with Riverbed Steelheads
Hello,
Have existing RPA 8-Node Clusters replicating remotely between site A and site B.
Interested in putting Riverbed Steelheads in the path between these RPA clusters for WAN optimization.
Question is do we have to delete the existing consistency groups in order to implement the Steelheads so that they can intercept the traffic, or can the Steelheads be introduced to existing Consistency Groups that have already established WAN communication between the RPA clusters?

No need to delete existings CG. What we recommend is to set compression to none and let the Steelheads do the WAN optimisation to save the resources on the RPAs.

Certainly not greenfield but replication streams are opened up for CG replication when the CG is initialized and active. So as a minimum is sounds like the CGs may have to be disabled before the Steelheads can be put in place. There's no reason why this can't be done on ad-hoc basis (CG by CG) and in a controlled manner to minimise the re-init time.

Yes we plan on setting compression to None once the steelheads are in place. What I learned from network team was that the Steelheads were unable to integrate and "intercept" the traffic, because there was already a communication channel established between the WAN ports on each side of the cluster. So we were asked if on the RPA side if we can either pause or even remove the CGs, so that the Steelheads could then be configured initially into the path before any RPA WAN communication.
So I guess the question is, does RP need to be a greenfield setup before introducing Riverbed?
Looks like your response says we can keep the CG's in place and the Steelheads should be able to be integrated in, which I'm hoping is the case. Do you have any info on how the Steelheads integrate into existing RP?
