Questions on RecoverPoint installation

I am new to RecoverPoint so I am hoping I can get pointed in the right direction here.  During the installation of RecoverPoint when it gets to the RecoverPoint Repository and it wants you to select a Storage Pool to create the repository in it is not showing me all the Storage Pools that I have.  Also the reported sizes are wrong.  Anybody ever seen this?  On both sites I have a Storage Pool called ERP Dev and ERP Prod.  On site 1 the installer shows me ERP Dev and not ERP Prod and then on Site 2 the installer Shows ERP Prod and not ERP Dev.

The ERP Prod has Fast Cache enabled so from my reading I do not want to use that storage group.  Further reading suggests that I should create a Storage Group just for RecoverPoint so that the different I/O patterns to not conflict.  Is that what is recommended?

Sorry for all the questions,

Gary

Hi Gary,

What RP version you are trying to install ?

This might be a known issue but were you able to configure the repository volume on one of the pools ?

The question of whether to dedicate/segregate storage pools for RP journal and/or replica volumes rather than consolidating them depends on the workload and the specific storage layout. There are cases where segregating the journal volumes to a dedicated pool will yield in better predicted performance since large sequential IOs will issues to/from the journal volumes. To compare, there are cases where mixing volumes on the same pool will simplify configuration and provide more flexibility and predicted performance for production and replication.

Hello Idan,

I am running the latest installer from the EMC web site and the .ISO version it upgraded the appliance to is rel4.1.SP2.P1_i203_release_emc....

Still confused about the dedicated/segregated storage pools :-)  Sounds almost like flip a coin.

Hi Gary,

Were you able to configure the repository on one of the pools/RGs ?

I was able to install it the repository in a a storage pool.  I also created a Raid Group for journals.  For now I used NL-SAS drives for testing.  I am having EMC come in and setup the system in October.  This was all for learning and I am sure they will blow everything away I have done anyway :-)

I did create a CG and successfully  replicate the data to the remove Data Center.  So everything is working so far.
