Questions for RP4VM

I have some questions about RP for VM, can somebody give me the answers ? Thank you.

1. In single site RP system configuration(CDP), can i replicate the VM within one vSphere cluster ? I.e. the Prod VM and CDP copy are in the same vSphere cluster.

2. RP for VM depends on vCenter, how to protect the vCenter VM itself?

3. Can Prod_VM/copy_VM/RP_Journal/RP_repository share the same vmfs datastore, if performance is not an issue ?

4. If i deploy the RPA VM's in a special vSphere cluster(different from the Prod cluster), which of the following datastores should be seen by the ESXi hosts in the RPA vSphere Cluster ?

  a. RP repository datastore.

  b. Journal datastore.

  c. The Prod VM datastores in the Prod vSphere cluster.

  d. All of above,

5. Can a RPA cluster shared with more than one vCenter ?

6. In a multiple site RP system configuration, which vCenter should i perform the failover/failover/test operation ? The Prod vCenter or the copy vCenter ?

7. Can i deploy the vRPA VM on the ESXi local datastore(Not shared with other ESXi) ? Of course the repository datastore.and journal datastore will be shared.

Hi there,

1. Sure, the prod VMs and the replica ones can be on different or the same cluster. Each cluster has to be registered into RP4VMs where proper iSCSI connectivity is validated.

2. vCenter can be protected like any other application. There are caveats on connectivity to managed ESXs in case of failover and its highly recommended to have more than one point of managment for you RP4VMs system

3. Yes

4. Repository and Journal datastors must be accessible to the ESXs in the ESX cluster where the vRPAs reside

5. Yes, max of 4 vCenters per a RP4VMs cluster as of today.

6. All vCenters managing clusters in a system can

7. Technically yes but that will not be recommended as it means that no HA restart or vMotion (unless svMotion is being done) can be done automatically or manually.

Hope that helps,
