Licensing Query

I'm looking at how the licensing for recover point is based for both Recover point  and recover point/se.

I'm looking to replication a total of 3tb data and was loking to know how the licensing is broken up for the products.

Any documents or pointers are welcome.

YES you need RP/SE CRR License  of 3TB .

Both RP and RP/SE are licensed on a per TB basis, based on the size of the source replicated luns as the HOST see it, i.e SCSI inquiry results, not the underlying disk spindle configuration or RAW storage.   So if you have 3TB of source luns, then you need 3TB of license.  So the next question to answer is if you need RP/FULL or RP/SE.  RP/SE has some additional restrictions and therefore is typically less expensive than RP (FULL).  The primary restrictions for RP/SE is that it can only be used with a single CX array at each site, so if you are planning on CX to CX replication with a single CX array at each site, then RP/SE is the logical choice.  For a complete list of the restrictions see TABLE 14 of the RP release notes available on power link.

the licenses are also based on the type of replication you are implementing...

For CDP you need to have a license and for CRR you need a seperate license.

And again in implemting the same for what volume you are replicating you need a licence for that.

I'm looking forward to have information so that I could get the licensing inormation for replication between two clariions located at a 60km distance. We are looking at a total of 3TB as the source luns and destination luns as 3Tb from the source and destination clariion. And we are looking at having remote replication.

Does this include just the CRR and RPA license for Recoverpoint/SE?

Please follow the Admin Guide, Hope it helps:

These documents has the comprehensive guide for the administration of the EMC RecoverPoint system. It is equally applicable to RecoverPoint CDP and CRR products

Yes.    There is a difference in the way we sell the license for RP/SE vs RP full and how these are presented in Direct Express, but within RP there is only one license period and this causes a lot of confusion.    People that implement RP only see the one license, anyone with Direct Express see the difference, I included a 6TB CRR/6TB CDP real license below minus the keys so you can see what the actual license content is.

When you purchase 4TB of CRR for RP/SE you actually get a license that will have  4TB  for remote replication and the direct express output will show same.  When you purchase 4TB of CRR for RP Full , even though direct express will show 4TB for each site(total of 8TB), the license will be similar to RP/SE with remote replication of 4TB.. in Direct Express you get two separate CRR license with a $$ amount associated with it.   An RP/SE license will have NO for Heterogeneous support and Journal Compress listings in the license that you get from License Keys, other than that the license is the same.

Hopefully this helps reduce the confusion.
