Aya this is actually a common use for RP, while there are no documents this has been done before. Can you descirbe what you are trying to accomplish?

Ankur,

Yes, I am also looking for a document or a listing of the procedure as to how to migrate data on a VNX at a local site to a VNX or Unity storage at a remote site; using RecoverPoint in ASync mode. (The idea is to move the physical host server from local site to remote site - hence we need to move the LUNs to remote site and shut down server at local site).

What process does one use, example "Test a Copy and Fail Over", at what stage does one need to "disable" the CG, etc..

This is not an uncommon requirement and although RP is not a migration tool it performs this requirement efficiently with the added bonus of leveraging one of its USP features prior to the cutover/relocation which is Test a Copy, aka image access. I worked with many customers with the same migration requirement who have used exactly the same procedure and this is a tried and tested successful method. Note that you can perform the following on an ad-hoc basis, i.e. per host with the associated CG. - Install RP clusters and connect them - Create the relevant CGs for the hosts and initiate replication - Ensure an ‘Active’ state is reach and the remote replica copy journal is populated with snapshots - Shutdown the all hosts using the source volumes - Initiate an RP bookmark for each CG and allow it propagate to the DR site and check that it is visible in the remote replica copy journal - Use Image Access to test the CGs for data integrity using the bookmarked snapshot in conjunction with a DR host - If good, disable and remove the CGs - Relocate the hosts - Reconfigure hosts in new location - Start database/app processes Regards, Rich Forshaw Consultant Corporate Systems Engineer - RecoverPoint and RecoverPoint for VMs Dell EMC | Data Protection and Availability Solutions Mobile: +44 (0) 7730 781169 E-mail: richard.forshaw@dell.com Twitter: @rw4shaw

Richard, thank you for your reply. It was very helpful.

I only wish that the procedure for migrating LUNs from a local site to a remote site, using RecoverPoint, was incorporated in the RecoverPoint Administrator's Guide; as I think it is the only way to migrate LUNs from a VNX to a Unity storage using SAN Block replication (other than using VPlex). Thank you again.

I think we did used to have such a procedure in the RP Admin Guide. Let me look into it.

Let me know how things go or if you need any more help.

Cheers.
