HP Customized ISO with Recoverpoint for VM

Hi,

We are facing an issue with our HP Proliant ESX Hosts using the HP Customized ISO for VMware 6 Update 3. The issue is that after installing ESXi and then Recoverpoint for VM which pushes down the VIB's the boot bank is full. This therefore prevents any Critical or Security updates from being deployed and installed to the ESX Host.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

Many thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Yes, /bootbank is set to 256MB for some time now while the splitter file is roughly 33MB. While we might further minimize it in the future, the only advice I can provide is to cleanup bootbank from unnecessary drivers. Resizing /bootbank is not trivial.

Hope that helps,

Thanks Idan.

Would that therefore mean I would have to edit the HP ISO and remove the drivers, or would this be a post install job where I would remove from the bootbank?

Is this a common issue with the HP Customized ISO? We don't appear to be doing anything unique with our install and patch installations which would get us into this position.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

it's really up to you, this can be post-install job.

It's not a common issue but every non-native ESXi image usually adds more drivers to /bootbank.

I would also recommend to take a look, if possible, at native ESXi image. It's definitely not a RP4VMs requirement though.

Idan
