How to configure Recover Point Synchronous replication?
Hi,
Currently we have Asynchronous replication is configured between two remote RPA sites and IP Protocol is being used.
Now we want to configure synchronous replication between two sites. I know that for synchronous replication , maximum distance between two remote sites should not be more than 200 km and all connectivity must be over the Fibre Channel.
Since our two sites are not more than 100m far and we have all fibre channel connectivity between the two sites.
Now what other changes we need to do?
What kind of configuration changes are there to make it synchronous replication?
I would appreciate all kind of you help.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks,
Shubh

Hi there
You will need to re-run the install option and specific FC replication than IP replication, then synch comes naturally in the configuration.

One more thing to say , it is a CRR configuration. And we have 2+2 RPAs setup .

Hi James,
You mean to say , first I need to run "install" option then "setup" and need to select FC protocol for both ??
Actually I have tried with "Setup" option and selected FC protocol but it did not get enabled.
Thanks,
Shubh

Hey I got it and done it as well.
Need to re-run the install and then setup to select FC protocol to use.
Important thing is that , zoning should be very proper between primary and secondary site.
Thanks,
Shubh

Hello Shubh,
Greeting for the day.
From powerlink, you can download the "Recoverpoint procedure generator" and you can generate the installation document as per your setup/environment. Otherwise let me know these below mentioned details, I will help you out with the procedure. thank you.
1) Recoverpoint version/Service Pack/Patch/Build version if appliable
2) Do you need CLI or GUI based installation procedure?
3) Splitter version and respected storage model's for both the sites
Cheers!!!

Thanks Suresh.
It is been configured now.
But Again I have one doubt in my mind. I have one scenario in my mind that is, If we have Synchronous replication configured over remote sites and when all the Primary site RPAs gone down(lets says all got powered off ) and we have production at this site. But the storage is available to Host and we are continuing writing data on this site. Since Primary site is down and data won't be in sync with secondary. So is there any setting that could tell us that primary is down or so?
Or splitters have some setting to tell us that site is down?
We are using host based splitters and we have whole Win2k8 environment.
I'm opening a new thread for this query since this thread is for different query.
Thanks,
Shubh

Hello Shubh,
Greeting for the day.
I would like to share my thoughts with you. Assume that, your RPA2 has been powered off at production site. By default, RPA can be configurable to alert you locally via SNMP, SMTP and syslog. Now your site control will be managed by RPA1 and it will have a communication link with RPA1 on remote site. In this situation, RPA1 will trigger an alert as “RPA2 is down".
In another situation, If both the RPA goes down on the production site, the link will become as "error state" and replication will be stopped. In this situation, we can not use the above mentioned alerting system because there is no site control. I am really not sure either this below mentioned tip will help you or not but you can try if it is possible.
There are some third party tools available in the market such as "IPMONITOR". You can use those tools to monitor the Recoverpoint appliances by configuring with management IP's of RPA. If RPA is not responding back, then the tool will trigger an alert and will send you an email about the state. Does it make sense?
Cheers!!!
