General question regarding RP4VM journal

I have a general question regarding the RP4VM journal and where it is created and how it is used.  We currently have several NFS datastores for all of our VMs.  When installing the RP4vm OVAs and then configuring them, where does the journal get created?  Is the journal within each rp4vm as a VMDK, or does the pair of rp4vms use some sort of common file?  I'm getting a failure on the journal creation and I'm not understanding what type of file the journal is, and where it will be located on an NFS datastore.  VMware 6.7U1.

Thanks,

David

Hi David, The journal is a VMDK which is created when VMs are protected. In the Protect VM wizard, the user selects which datastores to place the journals on. The datastores for journals must be shared. 15 shared datastores are registered automatically by RPVM, datastores can be added and removed as needed. RP4VMs is storage agnostic so NFS is of course supported, granted the NAS array is supported as per the VMware HCL. Just for troubleshooting, I would place it on non-NFS DS and see if that helps. Your vSphere version (as well as 6.7U2) is fully supported w/ 5.2P2 and later, 5.2P5 is highly recommended. Hope that helps, Idan

I'm assuming that the following version is a later release than 5.2P5?

"5.2.1.0.0.c.215"

Thanks,

David

Yes, I would recommend deploying 5.2.2 which was recently released.
