Direct Access mode (full sweep)??

Would like to make sure I understand that when I place a CG into direct access mode, when I finish my testing that a "Full Sweep" entails having to recopy all production data back to the DR site.

I have a 500Mb link between production and DR, and it seems that my init period for some of my CG's is fairly small, i would expect that init period to last longer so I'm asking the question to make sure I understand.

V4.0 and above will only do a short-init after Direct access process is completed and then disabled, otherwise for earlier versions it's basically a full init.

Short init (often called short sync) occurs when direct image access is disabled since marking is performed on both production and replica copies. There has been quite a lot of misconception around the behavior but this is the expected results in pre-RP 4.0 and on RP 4.0 and above.

As a side note, full sweep doesn't mean that ALL data is synced b/w the the production and the replica. The Full sweep process essentially reads production and replica copies and copies only the differences across the wire.

Hope that helps,

Idan
