Changing user password

I tried to change the default admin password and it seems to be flaky for both ends of my RPA's...

Are you supposed to change it in under the security-admin user?

Then all of a sudden the new one worked in the GUI but not for the command line...

Luckily I am logged in and tried to login on a third screen to no avail...

Is there some kind of limit of users logged in under admin?

I was thinking it might take some time to propagate but that doesn't seem to be the answer either...

Thanks

There is a limit of concurrent CLI sessions, this is listed in the release notes, for RP 4.1.x it's 100 per RP cluster. It isn't limited to a certain user.

Not sure which version of RP you're using but you can change the password through the admin user as well.

The change should be propagated immediately but there were cases in the past where the GUI session must be restarted with the new password to operate smoothly.

in your case, it's possible the admin user have been locked because of the wrong password being entered. You can unlock the admin with the unlock_user CLI command via security-admin.

My Production RPA Cluster allows me to login as admin, but my DR RPA Cluster not.

On each RPA within my DR Cluster, I have logged in as security-admin, and have unlocked the admin account, and also used the set_user, to reset the admin password, but still cannot login as admin on either RPA.

I have rebooted each RPA in my DR Cluster and tried again using the same technique, to no avail.

I would like to upgrade my RecoverPoint environment (using the RP Upgrade kit), but cannot do so, until I have resolved the problem of being able to login to my DR Cluster RPAs using the admin account.

Any advice would be helpful.

Recoverpoint Version = 4.1 SP2.P3(i,219)

Hello Gordz,

Here is a link to a KB that may help. https://dell.to/2FxYEv5

Hi Sam

Thanks for the reply.

The article refers to logging into the Cluster IP using the admin account

The problem is I cannot login to any of the individual RPAs or the Cluster using the "admin" account.

I can login using security-admin, boxmgmt, or sysadmin, but the upgrade kit requires the "admin" account.

Would I be able to delete the admin account and recreate it?

Hello Gordz,

You will need to reset the admin account back to default value back to admin.  Once that is done you should be able to login.  If that doesn’t work then you can try to delete & recreate the admin account.

Hi Sam

Yesterday I logged into each RPA (both Production and DR) individually as security-admin.

I executed the "unlock_user" command on each RPA, and there were no locks on any user on any RPA.

I then logged into the RP GUI as security-admin on my DR RPA Cluster, and deleted the admin user.

I waited 10 minutes and logged into the RP GUI as security-admin on my Prod RPA Cluster and checked if the admin account was visible...it was not.

I then proceeded to create a new "admin" account using the normal default password.

After 10 minutes had passed I tried logging on to all individual RPAs  in both Prod and DR clusters using the "admin" account....to no avail.

I logged into all RPAs using security the "security-admin" account and there are no locks on any accounts in the Prod Cluster, but I could not logon as "admin", on the DR Cluster the admin account was locked. I unlocked it using security-admin, then tried logging in as admin.... no dice.

Is there something I'm missing?

Hello Gordz,

You will need to open a support case so that we can look into to seeing why the password changing is not working.
