CG in Init state

Hi Experts,

I am having 8 Nodes Recoverpoints cluster on my Production and DR sites. One of my CG is having lot of IOs and it remains in Init state most of the time due to my RPO/RTO Settings limitation. I just wanna ask, if my CG is in init state, and I got an urgent request to test an older copy image in that CG. How can i perform that? Because if CG is in init state, i can't see old image in Journals or during test a copy wizard.

Sometime waiting for initialization completion is not possible, as link issues are there and it takes lot of time to be active CG.

Regards

DEV

Hi Rich,

Thanks! so my one time full replication has been completed already for that CG and it's already in active state. but few days back time i got urgent request in my environment to test a old image, but CG was in init state at that time, and i had to wait for that init mode to be in "Active mode" to access my old images. Is there any process/Steps? that i can follow to access my old images for testing, even if CG is in init state?

If you reached an Active state at some point then you should have snapshots sitting in your journal and available for access. However, if you have moved to an init state you could be tricklying over the snapshot and it's distribution due to it's cumulative size (depending on the reason for the init) may be replacing the existing snapshot entries. If you cannot move to image access by selecting a snapshot this will be the reason.

Hi Dev,

You must ensure that the CG reaches an Active state at some point to ensure a completed snapshot is created and distributed to the journal to facilitate image access.

That's my concern, how can i tackle this situation, if i need to test some old image at the time, When CG is in Init state.

Logically, i must be able to access my old images, even CG is replicating.

Do you have some inputs? how can i access my old images for test, if CG is in init state.

One simple way is to increase the size of the journal. This may provide enough space to ensure the current snapshot is distributing whilst maintaining some PiT history for you to utilize for image access. You may also be able to pause the CG when the CG has reached an Active state.

However, I would find out why the CG is regularly in an init state as this could help you determine other ways of managing the situation.
