Weird Corrosion on R820 Backplane
Was checking out a R820 that was showing bad SAS drives in the Array. Pulled open the cover and upon closer inspection found what appears to be corrosion on one of the backplane ports. This is only showing on the SAS A port, SAS B is totally clean. iDrac says cover has not been opened so I am totally clueless how this happened if this is indeed moisture related. Any ideas out there?

Hello TKSDAVE,
That is strange. I've never see that. There is no water cooled CPU in the system.
Only thing I can think of is Environmental.
Is it too close to cooling vent?
Any humidity in the room?
Any other equipment with same symptoms?

System was in a controlled environment for both temp and humidity etc. Honestly I'm not even sure what the substance is on the SAS connector. If it were water it should have evaporated by now but it is still on there. Other than some minor dust there is nothing else in or on this system. The other SAS connector (SAS B) is absolutely pristine.
Whatever the green stuff is it only on the inside of the connector on the back plane. My best guess is it is some sort of corrosion like you see on a car battery.

If you choose to replace them; there is a label on the cable and a sticker on the backplane with a DP/N number and that is the part numbers you need.
