USB 3.0 spec of R740/R740xd server?

Hi everybody,

I did some googling to seek the detailed spec of the USB-A 3.0 port of server R740/R740xd but failed to acquire further explanation about the USB-A 3.0 port.

The docs didn't show helpful information, such as this one https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/zh-tw/poweredge-r740/per740_techspecs_pub/usb-ports?guid=guid-db9721b1-2042-4253-9ee5-c3c14efbf7a1&lang=en-us

and this

https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocuments/Shared-Content_data-Sheets_Documents/en/aa/PowerEdge_R740_R740xd_Technical_Guide.pdf .

I would like to know whether the USB 3.0 port on server is "USB 3.2 Gen 1x1", "USB 3.2 Gen 2x1" or something...

is there any method to find out the answer?

Hi, as you already found documents I don't have any further one.

I searched and found a few information regarding USB ports below.

PowerEdge R740 and R740xd:

USB Ports Front: 2 ports (USB 2.0), 1 managed
(micro-usb)
Rear: 2 ports (USB 3.0)
Internal: 1 port (USB 3.0)
Optional Upsell: 1 Front port (USB 3.0)
– Not offered on Xd

USB
Front, rear, and internal USB ports are included in the base system for R740 and R740xd. Rear and
internal ports support up to USB 3.0, while front ports support USB 2.0. The R740 offers an upsell option
that adds an additional USB 3.0 port to the front of the chassis. The USB upsell module cable connects to
the internal USB port on the planar and the default internal moves closer to the front of the chassis
The front USB 3.0 port option is not available on R740xd.

Also I found a general information article about USB ports on Dell systems https://dell.to/3DUjWxG

Other than that open the Device Manager.
In the "Device Manager" window, click the + (plus sign) next to Universal Serial Bus controllers. You will see a list of the USB ports installed on your computer.
If your USB port name contains "Universal Host", your port is version 1.1.
If the port name contains both "Universal Host" and "Enhanced Host", your port is version 2.0.
If the port name contains "USB 3.0", your port is version 3.0.
