The license binding ID does not match the device unique identifier.

Hi there,

One of my company's R740 servers had motherboard failure and we replaced the motherboard. The server has then recovered but it complains that the "The license binding ID does not match the device unique identifier." Unfortunately, we couldn't locate the backup of iDRAC license and the administrator who staged this server initially is also no longer with the company. The Dell account transferred to me has no vision of the server in the Dell Locker. So, I can't download it from there too.

Can anyone from Dell help me please?

Regards

Bernard

Hi,

Yes, Joerg is correct. The bound license is tied with the service tag. You will need to configure the replaced mainboard to use the server's service by using the Easy Restore. Usually this is automated detected when there is a replacement mainboard being installed. The service tag entry will appear in System Setup F2 if the Easy Restore fails. If BIOS detects a new system board, and the service tag in the backup flash device, BIOS prompts the user to restore the backup information.

After the service tag is being updated, I would be able to generate a new license file for you to install in iDRAC.

PS: If there is no prompt nor BIOS is showing the Service Tag entry settings, the replaced mainboard is a used mainboard.

Hello,

I sent you a private massage to ask you for service tag and private data in order to send you the license.

Thanks

Hi, if you're having trouble obtaining a license from Dell Digital Locker, please send me a private message with your Service Tag, customer number, company name, contact details, and email address. Once I verify the license and match the information, I'll do my best to help you obtain it

If a PowerEdge sytemboard is replaced the new part gets the old and original ServiceTag.  Without that step, stuff like iDRAC licenses would not work and you need a new iDRAC lizense which than bind to the STAG.

@DELL-Joey C Thanks for the reply, Joey and Joerg! Yes, I think it is an used motherboard.

We have updated the Service TAG with the original #. Could you help to provide the iDRAC license file for us to install please?

@DELL-Marco B Hey, I'm currently in the same boat. Our R630 had a defective IDRAC-Port and so we exchanged the Systemboard 2C2CP which is a refurbished one. As the prior idrac was defective I could not export our IDRAC enterprise license. Now after changing the Service-Tag the new refurbished is only a express-license. How can I get a new license?

thanks :-)

Hello @DELL-Erman O,

thanks for the quick reply :-) I'm unable to send you an direct message. When I click the direct message on your profile overview it redirects me to -> https://www.dell.com/community/en/categories/dell-community

Maybe my rookie-account is not old enough and this feature gets unlocked later?
